Auckland Today was born as an open diary. It’s the space where I record, in the form of letters to my mother, everything I’m experiencing as I prepare to leave Brazil and build a new life in New Zealand. It’s an honest account of my daily life, my discoveries, my lessons, and the challenges of walking between two worlds so different from each other.
I write as a son speaking to his mother, but with the awareness that many people share the same questions:
How much does it cost to live in Auckland?
How does the job market work?
What is daily life like for someone starting from scratch?
What changes in your routine, in the culture, in your sense of belonging?
Here, you’ll find those answers in practice, at the real pace of someone who is living all of this for the first time.
The goal isn’t to teach ready-made rules, but to share experiences. From packing bags, dealing with homesickness, and navigating bureaucracy to discovering neighbourhoods, routines, jobs, and what it truly means to adapt to a new culture. Everything is told with simplicity, honesty, and a touch of kiwi lightness.
Auckland Today is for my mom, but it’s also for anyone who dreams of living in New Zealand, is planning the move, or simply wants to understand what life in Auckland really looks like through the eyes of an ordinary person who chose to start over.
Here you’ll find weekly stories, personal reflections, cost-of-living comparisons, behind-the-scenes moments of the move, and everything no official guide ever tells you — because real life is always different from the brochure.
If you’re looking for a human, direct, unfiltered perspective on this journey, welcome. It’s a pleasure to share this path with you.
